Chinese shoppers avoiding escalators after woman was killed by one. Photos of the bizarre techniques being used to avoid the footplate at the end of escalators have emerged from China. The precautionary reaction comes after video footage emerged showing a Chinese woman falling to her death through an escalator footplate in a shopping mall on Monday. In one of the latest photos, a man carrying a baby in his arms while walking with his son is seen tapping the footplate before letting his children safely pass from the escalator. Other shoppers, pictured on China's social media site Weibo, use sticks to tap the surface of the metal plate and some even spread their legs across the handles to avoid stepping on it at all. Using leaps, jumps and holding themselves over the escalator's edge, Chinese shoppers (pictured) have been seen posting unusual techniques to avoid touching the escalator footplate on social media. Chinese shoppers, who are paranoid they will fall through the footplate, have attempted to leap and jump across it instead. A video post by Emotions on their Facebook Community page shows the strange reactions put into action. One Facebook user, Alwin Tandiono commented on the post: 'After seeing a horrible elevator accident recently…I think Its reasonable people did that'A woman in a video post is seen tapping a stick onto the plate (left) while others try to avoid the plate altogether by stepping around the edges (right)Mr Tandiono continued: 'Nothing funny bout that… I will do the same too, specially when I'm with my family.'Xiang Liujuan, 3.
